[FDE] Check Disk for Bad Sectors Before Install FDE Software?

When I've encountered that, chkdsk (XP) then announced I had the opportunity to 
reboot and do the chkdsk when the computer rebooted. I don't know what
determines if chkdsk makes this offer or not. Something in the registry no doubt.
