[FDE] PointSec

PXE ( pixie ) boot is simply booting of the LAN/WAN utilizing the NIC. If
you turn off WOL ( wake on Lan ), then it also disables PXE boot.

Thanks for the advise on the defrag / checkdisk. Will do.

Cheers.

Mike

Re: [FDE] PointSec

Hi,

Having been part of a large PointSec deployment recently, I can
tell you that we found two problems: something called "pixie
boot" which I never did get a clear definition of, and disk
fragmentation.

Run defrag and checkdsk on all machines before installing. They
wrote a little script to do it for all the machines connected to
the LAN. With the pixie boot and the defrag/checkdsk fixes the
failure rate went from 17% to 0.025%. We think the failed
machines had hardware/HD problems anyway so they were just
swapped out.

Best,

Allen

ready to test it. The test will be in a WIn2k3 SP2 R2 domain with the
workstations being Xp SP2. Does anyone have any gotcha's that they would
like to share, or problem areas that they found.
