I'm not going to debate whether science is near
its limits, but I will suggest that, as Kurzweil
suggested, it is not far from "here" to where the
computers are smarter than us. Those who believe
that evolution is an inevitable Law of Nature might
want to argue why if something is smarter than us
it doesn't inevitably come to be the ruling class.
"We" are already too puny to do science without
the help of machines, and I can see few scientists
who'd turn down the help of a sentient program.
Put differently, if the end of science doesn't exist,
do we not have to invent it?
