[FDE] SOS loses SSN, and PII of 51,000 Agilent employees

Stock & Option Solutions (SOS) lost a laptop that contained Social
Security Numbers and other Personally identifiable information (PII)
of 51,000 Agilent employees. Agilent had hired SOS to make sure that
money management firm Smith Barney had properly transferred Agilent
employee stock data to a new management firm, Fidelity Investments.
The SOS employee who was working on the project had all the employee
data stored on a laptop that had no safeguards (e.g. encryption) in
place. :-(

I hope this deters companies from outsourcing processing of such
confidential data to contractors who lack proper controls to protect
customer's data.
